Local SportsUSOEC Lifters Help Kids "Lose the Training Wheels"Mon 7/26/10 6:00PM MARQUETTE – Weightlifters from the United States Olympic Education Center volunteered at the “Lose the Training Wheels” program July 19-23 at Lakeview Arena.
“Lose the Training Wheels” is a program that teaches individuals with disabilities how to ride a two-wheel bike independently.
“It was such a fun experience,” said USOEC team member Breanne Carlson (Peshtigo, Wis.), after volunteering for the event a second time. “It’s so rewarding for the kids to be more independent and increase their self-esteem. I’m honored to be a part of it.”
The weightlifters will be at Bay Cliff Health Camp Aug. 13 to interact with camp athletes and demonstrate Olympic lifts. After demonstrating, the weightlifters will spot camp athletes as they perform an Olympic lift.
