Lighting Problems Cancel Flights at K-I Sawyer

Flights headed into K-I Sawyer International Airport on Tuesday night were re-routed. The Airport lost use of it's runway lights, forcing to in-bound flights to be re-routed. American Eagle and Delta Airlines Flights were cancelled.

Marquette County Board Approves K-9 Funding

The Marquette City Police Department has $5,000 to add to funding efforts for a new K–9 unit.The Marquette County Board voted unanimously to approve the funding request that will go towards the start up and establishment of a two dog K–9 unit for the city of Marquette. The dogs will be trained in search and rescue but their main purpose will be to combat the growing issue of drug use in the community.

Substance Abuse Coalition

The Marquette County Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Coalition keeps in touch with activities of teens and young adults. Today, the group met to discuss the growing use of prescription drugs and how to get rid of them. Marquette County Health Department health educator Sarah Derwin says students in local high schools are playing a big role in making sure their peers and members of the community know how dangerous those drugs can be.

Wlidcat Wellness Health Fair

Rape aggression defense system and health risk assessments were part of a half-day-long wellness fair at Northern Michigan University. The focus was on healthy living in behavior, attitude and diet. The message was delivered through displays, food samples, screenings, prizes and more.

Parallel Parenting

There's no training for the job of parenting, and it's likely to be the toughest job any of us ever have. Factor in being a parent who is separated, divorced or never married and the job often becomes even more difficult. A free short–term class entitled "Parallel Parenting" begins tomorrow in Marquette for parents to learn a variety of skills.

Former Pistons guard suffers season-ending injury

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chauncey Billups tore the Achilles tendon in his left foot last night in the Clippers 107-102 victory over the Orlando Magic. Billups will miss the rest of the season. Billups spent 6 season in Detroit from 2002-2008, winning an NBA Championship in 2004.

Marquette at Gladstone game has been postponed

The Great Northern Conference boys' basketball match-up between Marquette and Gladstone that was scheduled for tonight at Gladstone High School has been postponed. MSHS Athletic Director Jamie Tuma has told ABC 10 Sports that the game will be re-scheduled at a later date.
